Oops, Jose Paris was AFK for two weeks, on blogging that is. Well, there are some changes that took place and recent events that I somewhat trying to remember (Oh yeah there's the midterm elections and Mum's Day, that's all.)
After graduation it's all job-hunting. I'm seeking for a long-term career (especially in IT) that would help me learn more about my skills and abilities. I was busy updating my resume, browsing through online job sites for new alerts, and reading the Sunday newspaper for classifieds. As of today I applied in three well-known companies, each with different job position. Usually it starts with an initial screening or interview. Then followed by taking a series of test from visual and language proficiency to culture fair and flowcharting/sequencing. The exams were not that hard, but the limited amount of time alloted will evaluate your speed and accuracy. The actual job interview comes next, and I try to remain positive and spontaneous at all times. Hopefully by next week I'll be receiving a call for my next instructions. To all first-time job seekers out there like moi, be prepared and good luck to us!
I'll be leaving you with some random links and an article from the Computer Stupidities website.
Life Before the Computer:
An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano!
Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 1/2 inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out!
Compress was something you did to garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for awhile!
Log on was adding wood to a fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode!
Cut - you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu!
I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead!
Last Monday (07 May) was one of the most memorable days in my life. It was the day when all my hardships and sacrifices has finally paid off. I graduated, delighted and proud. The ceremonies took place at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. I was with my parents and my little sister. Hundreds of new degree holders wearing traditional academic dress marched and received their respective diplomas. Keynote speakers include Senator Edgardo Angara, Hon. Nona Ricafort Ph.D.(Commissioner, Commission on Higher Education) , and Hon. Augusto Syjuco, Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), who gave a very wonderful inspirational message (with comical presentation to back them up!) To my parents, especially to my Tita Lieta, and to my siblings, thank you very much for the support and understanding you've given me through the years. To my mentors and the faculty, thanks for everything you have taught to me, I'll keep that in mind. And to my classmates, my friends, my fellow graduates, the best of luck and I congratulate each and everyone of us! You'll always be a part of me, for all those memories we shared, no matter how, no matter what, a big thank you! Cheers!
Just a few days from now I'm set adrift, graduating from college. After years of painstaking homeworks, numerous assignments, hours of studying, moments of cramming, pricey projects and all those glorious crazy stuff there is to school, I'm almost done and ready to face a new chapter in my life. Very busy week. I managed to work out my slight deficiencies and that's good, tomorrow all I need is to submit one final requirement (a copy of my birth certificate) and it's a go signal on the auditing department, hope all goes well. I'll try to catch up on the baccalaureate mass tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait for the big day come Monday. I had this mixed, kinda weird feeling now that commencement exercises is near, or is it just me?
Two weeks ago I had my very first job application, in a notable BPO call center company. I breezed through all three aptitude tests and had two interviews. Unfortunately, I declined the offer, for some undisclosed reason. I think I'm not suitable for the position and the fact that I really did not apply there (I was referred.) A worthwhile experience, though. Maybe there are still some better opportunities.
PS: I'm planning to make another blog, this time in Filipino, watch out for it soon! Ciao! :)
