On Philippine Cities
06.25.07 (11:19 am)   [edit]

Aku & Lalu

OT: Happy 84th Birthday to my loving grandmother Lola Mering! We love you very much! :)

Recently a number of Philippine municipalities were granted cityhood status after a successful plebiscite. These include Borongan City in Eastern Samar, Bogo City in Cebu province, and Tabuk City in Kalinga.

Here in Metro Manila, two municipalities formally became cities this month, San Juan and Navotas. This makes Pateros the lone municipality in the metropolitan area.

So what makes a city special? They get bigger share from the internal revenue allotment (IRA) which forms part of the city's budget, this would mean more projects and investments for development. Philippine cities are classified as Highly Urbanized City (HUC), Chartered City, Independent Component City or Component City. For HUCs, there must be a minimum population of two hundred thousand and an annual income of at least fifty million pesos.

More than two years ago, my hometown Taguig became a city. From a quiet lakeshore town, it became one of the most important suburbs of Manila, with the continuous development of Bonifacio Global City. Very promising projects in the future, which includes the construction of the country's tallest building.

Haha these two advertisements on Philippine television right now keep on airing you'll never miss watching them.

Unilever Knorr recently launched "Makulay ang Buhay sa Sinabawang Gulay", an advocacy to promote vegetable eating to children. Dr. Jose Chuaunsu, consultant at the Manila Doctors Hospital Department of Pediatrics, said that parents must be role models by encouraging their children to eat vegetables for these will help build their immune system, brain development and improving learning skills.

Well, Rejoice has done it again. After Jaboom Twins' "Sumusunod sa Galaw", Sandara Park's "Walang Sabit" and Mish Maravilla's "Instant Ayos", here's Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Winner Kim Chiu's take on the popular Rejoice series of jingle-inspired ads. Just look how she "carries" herself, not to mention the dance choreography.

Happy Father's Day!

Pabu and I

From Scrapbooking Magazine

What makes Dad great? Is it his laughter, his security, his stories, or is it simply everything about him that you love? Show him how much you appreciate all he is and all he does with a gift made just for him. We have some great ideas to help you start a Father's Day tradition for your family now and for generations to come.

* Write a short poem. Add a new poem to a decorated book each year.

* Write a D.A.D. acronym poem; such as D is for____, A is for ____, D is for ____. You can also use Dad's name, one word to describe him, or "FATHER".

* Make a list of the top 10 things you love about Dad.

* Make a list of Dad's favorite things.

* Write or print out some of the stories Dad loves to tell and put them in a decorated journal.

* Interview family members with questions about Dad's life and document the questions and answers in a book. Add photos to help tell the story if possible.

* Gather some of Dad's favorite photos and scrapbook them. Add humorous and descriptive captions for each photo.

* Think of 10 to 20 words that describe Dad and make simple layouts for each.

* Create a theme album with a list of Dad's favorite movies, recipes, food, books, sports, or hobbies.

Hello! I wasn't able to update my blog, seems like it's becoming more of a chore to me than a habit. I'd really like to share more stories and what's on my mind but there are some restrictions that keeps me from doing so, guess it's time. Still busy with the cleanup and job hunting, eh?

June 2: It'a Mamay & Pabu's 25th wedding anniversary! I'm so proud to have them as my parents, their love and support has brought me up to who I am today, and I thank them for that. We celebrated with a simple dinner at home. I wish them all the best and many more years of happy marriage! Here's the cake that I bought for them:

June 4: The first time I saw the new London 2012 logo. It was really different compared to the designs of previous Games, not the conventional type. At first I don't like it, probably because of the striking colors that was used (and the epileptic seizure-inducing video) but now I'm getting used to it. Final thoughts: it could have been better.

June 5: Just bought a "new" CRT monitor! Actually, it's a second-hand Samsung CDP17S monitor. Replaced the old one 'cause my eyes can't help the reddish display anymore. It is 17 inches so more room for my desktop and web pages. Love it!

June 7: I was invited for an interview at SPi for Software Engineer position. I had two, one with the recruitment team and one panel interview, wherein I was asked some technical questions. I think I did well and looking forward to their response over the coming weeks.

June 10: Finally got Microsoft Office 2007 running on my PC! Love the new features, new fonts, and the Office Fluent of course. I was able to revise my resume.
